We had a wonderful night of women-led films in Shreveport last night! I'm continually grateful and humbled to be sitting alongside such talented, intelligent, and powerful women to share our work and experiences as filmmakers. I relished getting to share How Do I Tell You This with a Shreveport audience for the first time (with the correct name in the credits) but I can't do enough to shout out the variety and diversity of other incredible stories on display. Daffodils in December gave us a heartbreaking drama about an aging woman and her wife navigating a newly diagnosed degenerative illness. It is so rare for queer women and trans people to see people like us age on screen, and it warmed my heart to see such a sweet, loving, and compassionate example of that here. Emma Francis was not present, but I would have loved to give her her flowers in person. CANS Can't Stand hit incredibly close to home. As an out trans woman living in NOLA, legislation like CANS is a looming threat to my own well-being, and I am in awe of the bravery and strength of the Black trans women leading the fight in my community to repeal these discriminatory laws. Megan's doc made some audience members uncomfortable, as shining a light on harsh realities often does. She's doing the Good Work. I also loved getting to see the work of Jaya, Kaitlyn, and Erin again, because these ladies have all made inventive, hilarious, and fun films. I've been seeing Jaya's work at Film Prize for years and her films always surprise and delight me. I'm equally excited to see what Kaitlyn and Erin make next. More than anything, I feel invigorated by being included in these ranks. Women's voices deserve to be heard. Queer stories deserve to be shared. Trans women's perspectives deserve to be seen. Thank you to Kristi Woodard for putting this showcase together and providing all of us the space to share ourselves with this community, thank you to the friends and film fam who came out to support us, and thank you to all of my fellow women filmmakers for inspiring and encouraging each other.

As #TransDayofVisibility comes to an end, I'm happier than ever to live in a city with so many queer and trans people living their lives and fighting the good fight, and where I could fully embrace and be the person I am. Proud to be trans. Proud to be out. Proud to be visible. (Here, have a girlfriend cameo too. As a treat.)
